YumeTwins is a kawaii goods box shipped worldwide from Tokyo! Each box includes 6 to 8 cute licensed items from popular Japanese brands. They include a variety of things, like plushies, home goods, stationary, and squishies. They focus on curating a selection of unique and quality goods around a monthly theme.
The theme for August 2018 is “Dream Land.” They give you a paper info booklet, and there’s a digital zine as well. I love the cover this month—it’s adorable. The booklet tells you about each item, as well as contests, referral programs, and kawaii culture information. This month they included six items all centered around a bedtime theme.
Sleepy Pokemon Cable Protector
The first item is a little plastic sleeping Pokemon friend. You pop it onto your phone charging cable to help keep it from bending/breaking. It’s a blind box, so you don’t know which design you’re going to get. There’s one Pikachu, and the rest are Eevee evolutions. I got Umbreon!
Mini Cooling Pillow Cover
This fabric pillow cover is designed to help keep you cool in warm weather. It attaches on top of your normal pillowcase with elastic straps. These seems like a higher quality item, and the price tag said it retails for 1200 yen/ aprox $11.50 in USD. Even know the name says “mini,” it fits my rather large pillow well. I absolutely love the design—it’s French Bulldogs and coffee themed, which, why not?
Kawaii Sanrio Notebook
I love getting stationary in kawaii boxes! The item is a notebook with an elastic strap to keep it closed. There are two Sanrio designs you can receive, and I got the Marumofubiyori motif. The pages inside also have a cute design, which is a nice touch.
Relaxing Puffy Plushie
The plushie this month comes in a variety of animal designs. They’re relaxing, and apparently they make a snoring sound when squished. Now, the design of the plushies are all really cute and the material itself feels very soft. However, when I opened mine it had strands of hot glue coming from where the carrot was attached to the rabbit. I always prefer sewing with plushies, even on the details. Also, the “snoring” noise sounds exactly like a squeaky dog toy! It’s pretty loud. I know if I accidently rolled onto the plushie in the middle of the night, it’d definitely wake me up. It seems like a strange choice to have a loud plushie for a sleep-themed box. Also, if you do have a dog that likes squeaky toys, put this plushie somewhere safe! Typically YumeTwins always has really nice plushies, but the quality and thematic choice feel a bitty iffy this month.
Sumikko Gurashi Wash Towel
This 34 x 36 cm hand towel is from Sumikko Gurashi. It’s big and soft enough to use for washing your face or as a small personal hand towel. I got the Loch Ness design, which has a cute swimming motif. It’d be perfect for my nightly facewash, but it’s so cute I’m afraid of staining it with my makeup!
Kawaii Animal Bookmark
The last item is a bookmark that comes in several different animal designs. There’s a little tab in the bookmark so you can hook it on a page, and the bookmark itself has little sticky notes you can use while you read. This is a perfect item for a student or bookworm, and I love that even the little sticky notes are themed to each animal. I got a monkey design which has little banana sticky notes.
Overall, I loved every item in this month’s box except the plushie. I’m a little bummed about the quality, and I still think having a loud squeaky noise in a plushie meant for a “Dream Land” theme is a little odd. Other than that, I liked that the other five items had practical uses and fit the theme. I especially loved the Mini Cooling Pillow Cover and the Sumikko Gurashi Hand Towel. The design on the pillow cover is so cute!
