Tinker Crate sends unique STEM projects for children 8(ish) and up every month.

They send everything you need to create one awesome project, and this month, they sent supplies for additional tinkering.

November’s Tinker Crate was all about automatons, and my girls and I loved learning about their history and usefulness.

Tinker Zine is included in every package, and it is always full of fascinating info and additional project suggestions.

This Tinker Zine also included some extra paper pieces for making lots of different automatons.

One thing I really appreciate about Tinker Crate are their very readable instructions and fabulous YouTube videos.

Delilah constructed a wooden automaton that moves three balls with the turn of a crank.

She was able to build the entire thing by herself.

This has been one of our favorite finished projects. We’ve left it on our dining table, and no one can resist turning the crank and watching the balls climb the steps and slide down to begin again. It is actually quite meditative.

I am so impressed with Tinker Crate! Every month, they manage to invent amazing contraptions that are doable, unique and educational. Their kits make wonderful gifts, too! You can get your first box for 30% off with code FESTIVE30 HERE.

I live in Utah with my carnivorous husband, three swell daughters, and two semi-trained dogs at the base of some of the most beautiful mountains in the world. Sometimes I write for money, but usually I just play Candy Crush.

I am a vegan, homeschooling mom who might be a tad obsessed with subscription boxes. My infatuation is evidenced by my uncanny ability to recognize the sound of my mail carrier’s truck engine. I’d like to say don’t judge me, but if I were you, I’d judge me. I love vegan/eco-friendly, literary and thoughtfully curated boxes.
