Fanchest is not a subscription box, but rather a gift box service that provides boxes of licensed sports team goodies. You pick your favorite team (NBA, NHL, NFL, MLB, and college team options are available), then pick which Fanchest you want. In the case of my favorite football team, the NY Giants, there are three options. The box I received for review was the New York Giants Fanchest VII ($59.00, 5 items). However, there is also a Baby Fanchest ($59.00, 5 items) (because one is never too young to display team pride) and a Memorabilia Fanchest, which is essentially Fanchest VII plus an autographed mini helmet ($150 for JPP, $225 for OBJ, $235 for LT).
I am always a sucker for a handwritten note.
Each box also contains a golden ticket, which you can scratch off to win further goodies. Mine was a $20% off code.
This box claims to have a value of over $80. Today I’ll be including the price on each item so you can see the total value.
Yes, there’s some social media things you can do to get featured. No, I did not even remotely consider doing them. #lazyblogger4life
’47 T-Shirt – $32.00 (not listed on the ’47 website)
This is the softest shirt, and perfect for days when I just want to stay in bed and be comfy. It is also the most dye-filled fabric I have ever seen. Do NOT just throw this thing in the wash without soaking it first, as everything else you own will wind up like an Eiffel 65 song.
Not too much to say about this can cooler. If you haven’t used one of these before, there made of neoprene and keep your cans cooler longer. It’s a simple item, but one I’ll use.
Here’s the other design. I like this side better.
This vinyl decal can be stuck on pretty much whatever you want. I plan on sticking it in my cubicle window once the season starts.
3′ x 5′ Banner Flag – $37.99 (not the exact design, but similar)
Holy crap, this thing is huge. Personally, I do not own an enormous flagpole to do this justice, so I’m thinking of just using it as a wall tapestry. One thing I have noticed is that all the items so far seem to have very basic designs. I’m assuming that this is done in order to please the largest amount of fans, but still I wish there was a little more variety (like the red side of the can cooler!)
Outside of the word’s softest shirt, this was the coolest item in the box for me. This mint coin is perfect for display. Though it is only silver-plated zinc (or as my coin collector father described it “It’s okay I guess, if you like that base metal junk.”) I still think it looks nice on my shelf.
On the other side is a very very brief history of the team. Apparently there are only 5,000 of these coins, making it a nice little gift (just not for my father).
One thing you might have noticed in some of the pictures is this holographic sticker. This signifies that all of the items in the box are officially licensed. What does this mean? Well, for starters, licensed sports team items are stupidly expensive. The five items in this box have a value of $99, with most of that value coming from the shirt and the flag. If you are a sports fan, and you want official merchandise, you’re going to spend a decent amount of money.
This box did indeed exceed the promised minimum value of $80, and I will use all the items in here (if I can ever figure out where to put that flag), so I would definitely say I enjoyed my first Fanchest experience. The non-subscription nature of the box makes it a good choice for gifts. I can definitely see this box being popular with both Mother’s Day and Father’s Day on the horizon (that baby fanchest especially). In fact, Fanchest will be offering a special Father’s Day box this year. One thing I would love to see Fanchest offer in the future would be an option to get a box featuring multiple teams. I would love to buy a mixed Giants/Yankees/Devils/screw the Nets forever for leaving NJ box. For now, I’ll settle with using my 20% off code from my golden ticket for when the Yankees box is in stock. Interested in Fanchest? Check it out .
PR Sample. No compensation was received. All opinions are my own. Hating the Cowboys since 1991.
