RawSpiceBar is such a fun and inexpensive way to play with flavor profiles from around the world. Every month they deliver three (very) fresh and fragrant spice packets which represent a geographical location, and the spices are pre-measured to coincide with their recipe suggestions. I usually get an extra email with alternative recipe ideas, too.

July’s RawSpiceBar featured flavor profiles inspired by Memphis BBQ. This month the included recipe card was for Memphis Dry Ribs, Bacon Potato Salad with Smoked Salt, and Triple Spice Ice Cream.

As a vegan, I find it pretty fun to tweak their recipes to my taste.

My husband may have preferred ribs, but I chose to make the Quinoa and Portobello Memphis Burgers utilizing the Memphis Spice Rub as featured on their blog. The Memphis Spice Rub is a blend that includes paprika, pepper, garlic, thyme, oregano, and cayenne. I used EnerG egg replacer as an egg substitute. The burgers turned out pretty yummy, but if I made them again, I would add a sweet element to the burger (maybe a little maple syrup?) and reduce the amount of carrot. Some caramelized onions would have been so yummy with this. We grilled the red pepper and Portobello, and the stack was beautiful. We added a little fry sauce because, hey this might be a Memphis spice pack, but we still live in Utah!

The potato salad was delicious! I omitted the bacon and used Vegenaise in place of the mayo. I doubled this recipe because I knew we would eat more than a pound of potatoes. There was plenty of salt to handle the doubling. My husband literally licked his plate. He loved the Applewood smoked salt.  I wish RawSpiceBar had a way to purchase our favorite spices. I heard a rumor that they might open a storefront in the future. I am crossing my fingers.

The final recipe included was for Triple Spice Ice Cream. This packet includes green cardamom, cinnamon, and star anise. The recipe I received doesn’t include strawberries, but the recipe utilizing these spices on their blog does. RawSpiceBar featured Lindsay from Scoop Adventures as the creative chef behind this dish. Well, I am a busy lazy homeschooling Mom of three, so I decided to purchase our ice cream instead of making it. I used an entire container of Almond Dream vanilla ice cream and blended it with the strawberries and spice blend. Holy Cow! This was delicious and my favorite dish of the night. Again, where is RawSpiceBar’s storefront? I want this for breakfast!

RawSpiceBar has phenomenal customer service. Every time I have emailed them with a question, I get a very quick reply.

I really love how RawSpiceBar gets me out of my comfort zone. We put on Aretha Franklin as our Memphis dinner music, discussed new spices (green cardamom), and had a fun evening eating brand new foods.  I would recommend this subscription to anyone who loves to cook or wants to spice up their meal planning (see what I did there?).

If you’re interested in RawSpiceBar the cost is $6.00 per month, and you can get one by clicking here.

Purchased. All opinions are my own and no compensation was received.

Sarah

I live in Utah with my carnivorous husband, three swell daughters, and two semi-trained dogs at the base of some of the most beautiful mountains in the world. Sometimes I write for money, but usually I just play Candy Crush.

I am a vegan, homeschooling mom who might be a tad obsessed with subscription boxes. My infatuation is evidenced by my uncanny ability to recognize the sound of my mail carrier’s truck engine. I’d like to say don’t judge me, but if I were you, I’d judge me. I love vegan/eco-friendly, literary and thoughtfully curated boxes.
