YumeTwins is a kawaii goods box shipped worldwide from Tokyo! Each box includes 6 to 8 cute licensed items from popular Japanese brands. They include a variety of things, like plushies, stationary, and squishies. They focus on curating a selection of unique and quality goods around a monthly theme.

Happy 2018! I’m reviewing the first box of the new year—January. The purple patterned box includes an insert that tells you how to access the online zine. You simply go to the url and type in a password. You can check out past zines in their archive. There are 4 parts to the online zine: January Lineup, Photo Contest, Yume Prize, and Get Free Box. They give you a detailed description of each item, including explaining any helpful cultural context. They also describe their referral program, social media contests, and the monthly prize.

This month’s theme is “Mythical Resolution,” which is rather apt for the New Year season. There are 6 kawaii items in this month’s box.

Wombat-san & Friends Large Daruma Plushie

This month’s plush is a character from the Wombat-san & Friends series! There are several animal variations, but all of them are styled like a Daruma doll. Daruma dolls are traditional round red figures that represent persistence towards a goal. The plushies fuse the round Daruma design with a cute animal. It’s perfect for the “Mythical Resolution” theme, since Daruma are good luck towards a specific goal or wish. I got the penguin character, which is housed in a blue Daruma design. It’s so cute! It’s very squishy, and it’s quite large compared to the size of the box.

Disney Princess Nail Clippers

These nail clippers are made by Green Bell, “which is known as one of the top three metal cutting good producers in the world” according to the online zine. There are several possible Disney princess designs, and I received a Rapunzel one. I’m not super into Disney characters, but the nail clippers themselves are made very well!

Gudetama Folk Tale Food

Gudetama, the lazy egg, is the star of this Rement blind box. There are several possible Gudetama figures, but they all center around Japanese food and folktales. This is perfect for the New Year’s theme, since traditional New Year’s food in Japan has a lot of meaning behind each dish. I got the “Custard Manju” figure, based on the famous Momotaro (peach boy) story. If you have Google Translate on your phone, you can find out more about your specific figure/folk tale. The details on this little set are awesome—Rement figures are always good quality. I love the little flag!

Marumofubiyori Clear File

This clear file folder is from the same Marumofubiyori series as the pencil and eraser set from last month’s box. This cute character series centers around Moppu, a cozy polar bear. I actually started collecting file folders when I moved to Japan, so this is a welcome addition! I use them all the time for work, as well as sorting bills, mails, programs, ticket stubs, etc.

Disney Tsum Tsum Cute Calendar

For the new year, a new calendar seems appropriate. This standing calendar is Disney Tsum Tsum themed, with different designs each month. There’s also a sheet of stickers included so you can decorate the pages and mark important events throughout the year.

Bread Animal Squishies

The last item is a squishy. There are several different styles all from the “Bakery Mameshiba” line from the Amuse company. I got the pink fox with a cherry blossom. It’s supposed to smell like bread, but I don’t get that smell. The toy has a good texture and fits in the palm of my hand nicely.

All in all, this month’s box fit the “Mythical Resolution” theme really well! I always like the mix of practical and cute items that YumeTwin’s curates each month. It’s also impressive how they get such large plushies in their box! My favorite items this month were the Daruma plushie, Gudetama figure, and the Moppu clear file. I’m always excited to open this box, and I think the mix of items and characters would appeal to every kawaii fan.

If you’d like to subscribe, you can do so here. It’s $35 per month with free international shipping. If you subscribe now, the next box will be for February. Maybe a Valentines theme? Keep an eye on the YumeTwins website and social media for teasers about the next box!
