IMG_1639LootAnime is a newer offering from Loot Crate that sends out geeky swag based on anime. The items range from home goods, to clothing, to manga, to.. well, everything. This box is pretty all-inclusive. It features both newer, cult classic anime and older anime. They’ve recently partnered with crunchyroll and subscribers can get discounts on their LootAnime if they’re subbed to Crunchyroll (think netflix but for anime). The theme this month was Victory, meaning all the items centered around some sort of anime where the characters won things.

Loot Crate also has other boxes like special (ghostbusters for example), Loot Gaming, original Loot Crate, Level Up Accessories, etc. There’s a lot of different boxes in the Loot Crate brand now, almost all of which have a shirt. LootAnime goes up to 3XL in mens.

Splatoon Plush
Hey there little guy are you lost? The Loot Gaming box is the other way. Honestly this plush has no bidnis being in this because because splatoon is literally a multiplayer paintball game for the wii u where you turn into random squids, not an anime. It does have a manga adaptation coming out soonish in Famitsu…. Well played, marketing team. There is a huge cry for an anime which this plush could signal a nod to that.

Free! Eternal Summer Sport Bottle & Luggage Tag
Hah I actually like these. I remember quite vividly when the “Swimming Anime” enveloped Tumblr – which at the time it was a promotional ad in Japan, and its popularity (ripped bishonen certainly had nothing to do with it) caused it to be adapted into an high school anime centered around five competitive swimmers all of whom are male but with female names. I’ve not seen the first season but I have watched bits of the second (Eternal Summer is the second season), and I like it okay. I love that it has some of my favorite VA’s in it. I need to watch the first season because the second has the first’s antagonist as a protagonist.

The cup changes the colors of the icons to make them more vivid if cold water is inside it. Pictured is my favorite, Makoto.

The reason this tag is unique is because each of the main boys has a creature associated with them as well as a corresponding color. I don’t remember much about Rei (purple butterfly) other than he was a track star the penguin recruited into the swim club in order to become an official team. He actually couldn’t swim and had to be taught. Each swimmer also has a specialty in terms of their preferred type of swim.

The back of the tag featuring the main crew. Honestly it’s a beautifully animated show with a good story line if you’re ever in the market for something new to watch.

Yowamushi Pedal
Honestly given this manga’s description on Amazon, I have little interest in reading it.

Power-pedaling Sakamichi Onoda has long been conquering the steepest slopes and regularly making the ninety-kilometer round-trip to Akihabara on a mommy bike!! But when his bike commute to his new high school lands him in a confrontation with the serious first-year road racer Imaizumi, Onoda has a major showdown on his hands! Can this meek geek really out-pedal the future ace of the school road-racing team?!

It does have beautiful art though, which I appreciate. Sports manga is apparently a huge thing in Japan though it doesn’t seem to have gained much traction here.

Yowamushi Pedal Shirt
I don’t even care that this is from a series I have no interest in, I like this shirt! Even if it is mustard and ketchup! This is actually the back emblem, it’s a two-sided baseball style shirt.

I actually didn’t take a photo of the front of the shirt because my memory lapsed but it just has this emblem over the breast. It’s very soft, though a little on the sheer side. I love that it’s more of a lightweight fabric than a regular heavyweight gildan and that it has 3/4 sleeves!

I didn’t like this months box nearly as much as I hoped I would, though I do like the types of items. I love that the send huge volumes of manga and little unique exclusives like that luggage tag, and I can always use a water bottle and a new shirt. That plush was kind of a bzzzt moment for me; It almost feels like a backdoor promotion for LootGaming or Crunchyroll (the latter being a collaborator for this box but STILL).
